Tuncer Bakırhan, co-chair of the pro-Kurdish DEM Party, recently addressed lawmakers in Ankara regarding the ongoing peace process. He stated that the Turkish government has neglected to implement essential improvements to political and civil rights. Bakırhan specifically highlighted the need to reinstate public employees and academics who were dismissed following the 2016 coup attempt, many of whom were targeted for signing a petition against military actions in the southeast. Furthermore, the party leader called for the cessation of media censorship and the removal of government-appointed administrators currently replacing elected mayors. These demands come as part of broader efforts to resolve a decades-long conflict involving the PKK, which has resulted in significant loss of life since it began.
