Dengue fever has expanded significantly beyond its traditional urban concentration in Dhaka, now heavily impacting Bangladesh's coastal districts. Data from the Mongla Upazila Health Complex indicates a record-breaking surge in patients, with 532 admissions recorded this year alone. Local health officials suggest that official hospital figures likely underestimate the true scale of the health crisis in the region. Currently, approximately 40 percent of all nationwide dengue hospitalizations are occurring within 19 coastal districts. Despite this widespread geographical shift in the disease's prevalence since its 2000 re-emergence, authorities have yet to implement specific prevention or management plans tailored to the unique needs of these coastal communities. The current situation represents an unprecedented challenge for the local healthcare infrastructure, which is struggling to manage the rising number of infected individuals.
