Following the Supreme Court's decision to maintain a four-year prison sentence for Aricell CEO Park Soon-kwan, grieving families expressed deep dissatisfaction outside the courthouse. The legal ruling pertains to a catastrophic fire that occurred at a Hwaseong manufacturing facility on June 24, 2024. Among the protesters was Lee Soon-hee, who lost her daughter in the incident and questioned the fairness of the judicial outcome, particularly regarding the status of the victims, many of whom were foreign nationals. The tragic blaze resulted in the deaths of 23 employees, 18 of whom were from overseas. Relatives of the deceased criticized the perceived leniency of the sentence, highlighting the emotional toll and the feeling of injustice surrounding the loss of young lives in the industrial disaster.
