The Department of the Interior and Local Government has expressed agreement with Senator Panfilo Lacson regarding the necessity of integrating local government units into the national budget formulation process. During a Senate finance subcommittee session concerning the department's 2027 budget, Secretary Jonvic Remulla emphasized the value of including district representatives within regional development councils. This collaboration aims to ensure that local development priorities are more effectively reflected in national fiscal planning. Remulla noted that while legislative representatives already possess the authority to participate in municipal and provincial development councils, this practice is currently underutilized. The initiative seeks to shift the legislative perspective to ensure that local needs are considered earlier in the budgetary cycle rather than solely during the congressional review phase.
