Official data from the Democratic Republic of Congo indicates that the ongoing Ebola epidemic has resulted in more than 5,000 fatalities. Since the health crisis began in May, authorities have documented over 10,000 confirmed cases of the virus. The current outbreak, attributed to the Bundibugyo strain, has expanded its reach across eight of the nation's 26 provinces. This event is now recognized as the most lethal Ebola occurrence in the history of the Democratic Republic of Congo and ranks as the second-largest outbreak globally, following the major epidemic that took place between 2014 and 2016.
