A group of eleven men, which includes a college student, appeared at the George Town Magistrate’s Court to face charges related to a riot. The defendants entered pleas of not guilty before Magistrate Noor Idayu Salim regarding allegations of participating in a riot while armed with potentially dangerous objects. The incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of August 29 near the SJKC Kong Min Cawangan Kedua school located in Air Itam. The individuals charged are Mohamad Nun Mohamad Jupri, V. Rathakisnan, Soman Sri Mahen Deren, Muhammad Haikal Mohammad Rafiq, Chad Sebastian George Albert, Elijah Yong, Cheow Junnuo, Tony Yen Chun Yun, R. Divagar, Muhammad Amirul Hafiz Abdullah, and Ng Chern Yeow. They are being prosecuted under Section 148 of the Penal Code for their alleged involvement in the armed disturbance.
