Singaporean authorities are currently reviewing data to determine if legal action is warranted against corporations contributing to regional haze. Sustainability and the Environment Minister Grace Fu stated that the government is exploring its powers under the Transboundary Haze Pollution Act as air quality levels reached a PSI of 203. The current environmental crisis is exacerbated by dry weather conditions associated with El Niño. While Singapore has expressed its readiness to support Indonesia in fire-suppression efforts, officials are still awaiting a response from Jakarta regarding the specific types of assistance required. Minister Fu emphasized the importance of international cooperation in managing the forest fires that continue to impact air quality across the region.
