The European Union has introduced a new two-euro handling charge for individual item categories within packages shipped from outside the bloc. This measure, intended to manage the volume of imports from China, arrives shortly before the peak holiday shopping period. The fee applies to each distinct product type per parcel, irrespective of the total shipment value. This new cost is separate from the three-euro duty already applied since July to small parcels valued under 150 euros. While the EU maintains that consumers are not directly responsible for this new levy, retailers are permitted to incorporate the two-euro charge into their pricing structures before finalizing transactions. This regulatory update aims to address the influx of low-cost goods entering the European market through direct-to-consumer online channels.
