The European Parliament’s rapporteur for Turkey, Nacho Sánchez Amor, indicated that the European Commission's forthcoming annual assessment will likely reflect a worsening situation regarding the rule of law and democratic practices in the country. Scheduled for release on October 28, the report is expected to highlight increased constraints on fundamental liberties and mounting pressure against opposition groups. Sánchez Amor noted that these findings will likely appear more critical than those presented in the previous year. He emphasized that the primary objective of these periodic evaluations is to provide a factual record of progress or regression for nations currently pursuing membership within the European Union, rather than serving as a direct mechanism for political intervention.
