Chou Tai-ying, the former women's soccer coach at National Taiwan Normal University, faces indictment for allegedly embezzling over NT$1.29 million through fraudulent research projects. Prosecutors claim Chou falsified data or inflated participant numbers between 2021 and 2024, using some of the funds to cover travel expenses for a private club team. While allegations surfaced that she coerced students into frequent blood draws under threat of academic penalties, prosecutors found insufficient evidence to pursue coercion charges. Following an internal probe, the university terminated her employment, banned her from teaching for four years, and rescinded her doctoral degree due to ethical breaches. Additionally, the Ministry of Education and the national football association have stripped her of all coaching credentials. Chou has admitted to the financial misconduct, leading prosecutors to request a court-ordered sentence and the seizure of illicit profits.
