The Hong Kong government has officially raised the monthly minimum wage for over 380,000 foreign domestic helpers by 2.35 percent, moving the floor from HK$5,100 to HK$5,220. This adjustment applies to all employment contracts finalized on or after October 3. Meanwhile, the mandatory food allowance, provided to workers who do not receive complimentary meals from their employers, remains frozen at HK$1,236 per month. Authorities stated that this decision followed a comprehensive review of the current socio-economic climate and feedback from relevant stakeholders. Despite the increase, which slightly exceeds the 2.2 percent hike implemented last year, labor advocates maintain that the new compensation level remains inadequate to meet the actual cost of living in the city.
