The newly renovated Huanggang Port checkpoint experienced significant traffic during the Chung Yeung Festival long weekend, recording more than 150,000 daily crossings. This surge served as an initial operational challenge for the facility, which recently transitioned to a streamlined clearance process. To manage the increased flow of travelers, local authorities increased staffing levels at the border crossing. The updated facility utilizes a collaborative inspection model, allowing passengers to undergo document and identity verification through a single queue. By integrating the work of Hong Kong and mainland officials at shared counters or automated channels, the system aims to simplify immigration procedures for cross-border commuters. Immigration Department data confirmed that the highest volume of travel occurred on Sunday, surpassing the initial government projections of 100,000 daily trips.
