The Indian Army is actively incorporating artificial intelligence to manage and analyze extensive data sets, aiming to improve operational efficiency and field deployment. According to Major General Pawan Anand (Retd) of the United Service Institution of India, the military is focusing on organizing data for algorithmic training while adopting digital engineering. This approach allows for the creation of virtual equipment models, enabling testing in simulated environments to accelerate development cycles and refine physical prototypes. Anand emphasized that computing power, connectivity, and data are the essential pillars for this transition. While the Indian Navy has initiated some digital engineering projects, the goal is to expand these practices across all armed forces. By moving away from traditional document-based acquisition systems, the military seeks to maintain a technological edge over adversaries, supported by a new policy framework governing AI usage within the defense sector.
