The International Crimes Tribunal-2 has issued a death sentence for Mahbubul Alam Hanif, the joint general secretary of the now-prohibited Awami League, for crimes against humanity linked to the July mass uprising. Presided over by Justice Nozrul Islam Chowdhury alongside judges Md Manjurul Bashid and Nur Mohammad Shahriar Kabir, the court delivered the ruling this Thursday. Three additional defendants—Sadar Uddin Khan, Asgar Ali, and Ataur Rahman—received life imprisonment sentences for their involvement in the same case. These individuals held various leadership roles within the Kushtia district and municipal branches of the Awami League. All four convicted parties are currently fugitives from justice, as they were not present during the proceedings. The tribunal concluded its deliberations on these charges, marking a significant legal development regarding the recent political unrest in Bangladesh.
