Israeli forces recently conducted a raid in Breqa village, located in Syria's southern Quneitra province, searching a residence before departing. This incident marks the second such incursion into Breqa within five weeks and is part of a wider pattern of ground operations, arbitrary searches, and artillery strikes across the Quneitra and Daraa regions. These actions include shelling areas near Eastern Samadaniya and Al-Rafid, as well as armored vehicle movements and drone surveillance. The escalation of military activities, which also involved airstrikes on an airbase in Idlib in August, reportedly intensified after December 8, 2024. At that time, the Israeli government allegedly abrogated the 1974 Separation of Forces Agreement, seizing strategic positions and treating southern Syria as a target. Efforts by Syrian officials to negotiate a security arrangement, including US-brokered talks, have failed, with Israel rejecting withdrawal from the buffer zone. The UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Syria has condemned these operations, warning they may violate international law and constitute war crimes.
