The Komeito party in Japan has officially named Mitsunari Okamoto as its new leader during a recent party convention. The 61-year-old lawmaker from the House of Representatives succeeds Toshiko Takeya, who had served in the role since January. This leadership transition occurs as the party organizes its strategy ahead of an upcoming extraordinary session of the Diet scheduled for next week. Komeito, which previously functioned as a junior partner within the ruling coalition, has undergone significant shifts in its political alignment earlier this year when its lower house members transitioned into the Centrist Reform Alliance. The recent change in leadership marks a new chapter for the organization following the subsequent dissolution of that alliance.
