Japanese officials and business representatives recently convened in Tokyo to evaluate strategies for deepening commercial ties with Central Asia and the Caucasus. A primary focus of these discussions was the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, commonly referred to as the Middle Corridor. To facilitate this expansion, Japan intends to launch direct air travel between Tokyo and Almaty. Furthermore, the government has proposed a 719 million yen investment, equivalent to approximately 4.7 million U.S. dollars, aimed at upgrading customs inspection infrastructure at the Port of Aktau. These initiatives, supported by the Japan International Cooperation Agency and various logistics firms, seek to encourage increased Japanese investment in regional transport networks, thereby streamlining trade logistics across the corridor.
