Tamaki Tsukada, the outgoing Japanese Ambassador to Iran, marked the end of his diplomatic tenure with a flute performance at Tehran's Grand Heritage Rashidieh Hotel. Accompanied by the Iranian Istgah Orchestra, Tsukada played selections from Hayao Miyazaki’s renowned animated films. This event follows his formal departure announcement made earlier in September during a meeting with Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. Throughout his time in Iran, which began in December 2023, Tsukada utilized music as a primary tool for cultural diplomacy, notably performing themes from popular Japanese television series like Oshin. His engagement also included participation in local artistic events, such as a tribute to vocalist Mohammad Reza Shajarian. These initiatives reflect the broader historical and cultural ties between the two nations as they approach the centenary of their diplomatic relations, which were formally established in 1926.
