The Karnataka administration has issued a directive limiting the performance of the national song 'Vande Mataram' to its initial two stanzas during official state functions. This policy excludes events where high-ranking dignitaries, such as the President, Vice President, Prime Minister, or Governor, are present. This decision aligns with a resolution from the Congress Working Committee. Previously, the Union Home Ministry had instructed that all six stanzas be performed if the song is played alongside the national anthem. Historically, only the first two stanzas have been utilized in official settings, as the subsequent verses contain references to Hindu deities. The Bharatiya Janata Party has criticized this approach, claiming that the omission of the later stanzas is a move intended to appease the Muslim community.
