The Kazakh Kurultai is currently reviewing a legislative proposal to establish customs representative offices within the diplomatic missions of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. This initiative, stemming from an agreement signed in Tashkent last November, aims to enhance information sharing and bilateral cooperation regarding customs procedures. During the legislative session, concerns were raised by deputies regarding the persistent traffic congestion at border crossings. Lawmaker Alexander Danilov questioned the effectiveness of recent infrastructure investments, noting that the government has directed 118 billion tenge toward modernizing border checkpoints over the past three years, with half of that sum specifically allocated to border facilities. Despite these substantial financial outlays, the expected improvements in traffic flow have yet to materialize, prompting further scrutiny from officials regarding the management and impact of these modernization projects.
