Kazakhstan is actively pursuing the expansion of its domestic QR-based payment systems to facilitate international transactions. The nation has selected eleven countries, including India, as potential partners for this cross-border financial initiative, utilizing India’s Unified Payments Interface as a strategic framework. This move aligns with the rapid growth of digital finance within Kazakhstan, where cashless payments now dominate the economic landscape. Recent data from the National Bank of Kazakhstan indicates that as of August, there were 84 million active payment cards in the country. In July alone, total card transactions reached 19.9 trillion tenge, with non-cash payments representing 17.6 trillion tenge. These figures reflect a consistent upward trend in electronic transaction volume and value, underscoring the necessity for modernized, interconnected payment infrastructure to support the country's evolving financial ecosystem.
