A significant landslide occurred on Friday morning in the Mahakulung Rural Municipality of Solukhumbu, resulting in the blockage of the Hunga River. According to local police authorities, the debris pile, measuring approximately 35 metres in height, has formed an artificial lake spanning 100 metres in length and 15 metres in depth near the Gaurishankar Hydropower facility. While water is currently managing to flow over the top of the obstruction, officials have issued a formal alert regarding potential flooding risks. Residents situated along the riverbanks and personnel at two nearby hydroelectric projects have been advised to exercise extreme caution. Local law enforcement is monitoring the situation, which is located roughly 10 kilometres from the Bung police station, to mitigate hazards to the surrounding communities.
