Low Ek Yong, a 66-year-old private-hire driver, passed away in June 2025, roughly one year after suffering a head injury during an altercation with a passenger. The incident occurred on June 12, 2024, when Low attempted to wake a sleeping passenger at the end of a trip. The passenger reacted aggressively, pushing Low and causing him to fall and sustain a skull fracture. Although Low received emergency care at the National University Hospital, he eventually died from natural causes a year later. His colleagues have since described him as a generous and soft-spoken individual who frequently assisted others. The assailant, 22-year-old Oruche Morgan Fidelis, entered a guilty plea regarding the incident on July 17, 2026.
