Representative Elijah San Fernando of the Kamanggagawa Party-list has publicly denounced the Department of Labor and Employment following the absence of Secretary Francis Tolentino and representatives from the National Wages and Productivity Commission at a scheduled wage meeting. The session, held at The Manila Hotel, was intended for labor groups to contest Wage Order No. 28. San Fernando, alongside the National Wage Coalition, sought to submit a formal position paper advocating for the enforcement of Wage Order No. 27, which mandates an 85-peso daily pay hike for minimum wage workers in the National Capital Region. Labor advocates allege that the department conducted private meetings to validate Wage Order No. 28, which lowered the increase to 60 pesos. San Fernando further argued that this adjustment deprives employees of retroactive pay accumulated since late July, characterizing the department's recent conduct as lacking transparency.
