Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa has formally requested that President Anura Kumara Dissanayake include provisions in the 2027 national budget to fulfill employment promises made to graduates. In a letter to the President, Rajapaksa referenced the National People’s Power (NPP) election manifesto from 2024, which committed to addressing graduate unemployment. The manifesto specifically outlined plans to recruit 35,000 individuals across various sectors. These proposed roles included 20,000 positions within the teaching service, 12,000 roles in the information technology sector for both STEM and non-STEM graduates, and 3,000 placements in customs and income tax departments. Rajapaksa is calling on the government to honor these specific campaign commitments by allocating the necessary funding in the upcoming fiscal budget to support these professional opportunities.
