The Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment has introduced the "Ethera Diriya" initiative, a specialized housing loan program designed for Sri Lankans employed overseas. Under this scheme, eligible individuals can access financing between Rs. 500,000 and Rs. 10 million for residential projects. The bureau recently formalized partnerships with DFCC Bank and Union Bank to facilitate these loans, with plans to expand the network to eleven financial institutions in the near future. The signing ceremony was attended by key government officials, including Foreign Affairs Minister Vijitha Herath and Housing Minister Susil Ranasinghe. Borrowers are granted a repayment window of up to ten years to settle their debts. This program aims to assist migrant workers in meeting their housing and construction requirements through structured financial support from domestic banking partners.
