The foreign ministry of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus has formally criticized the European Union for maintaining the isolation of its citizens. Officials dismissed recent EU statements regarding dialogue and commitment to lifting restrictions as misleading, arguing that the bloc has failed to implement tangible measures. The ministry asserted that the EU is upholding an inequitable status quo by deferring to the Greek Cypriot administration's veto power. This diplomatic friction follows correspondence from Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhürman to the EU and the United Nations. Erhürman expressed concern regarding the cancellation of a youth football camp hosted by FC Barcelona and a cultural music festival in Kyrenia. According to the ministry, these incidents demonstrate a lack of genuine progress and serve to erode the existing trust between the two communities on the island.
