Transport cooperatives operating in Northern Mindanao have initiated discussions with local lawmakers to secure financial support for the national public transport modernization initiative. During meetings held on Thursday in Cagayan de Oro City, representatives from these groups emphasized the significant economic challenges they currently face. The cooperatives are advocating for the inclusion of dedicated, sustainable funding within the 2027 national budget to assist with the transition. Luzviminda Escobar, who leads the Northern Mindanao Federation of Transport Services Cooperative, is spearheading these efforts to ensure that the modernization program remains viable for local operators despite rising fiscal pressures.
