The Ministry of Manpower in Singapore reported 21 workplace-related deaths during the first six months of 2026, resulting in an annualised fatal injury rate of 1.1 per 100,000 employees. Data released on September 8 indicates that vehicular accidents were the primary cause of these fatalities, accounting for nine deaths. Notably, four of these incidents involved platform workers, highlighting the specific hazards faced by those operating in independent roles on the road. While the number of major injuries decreased during this period, Minister of State for Manpower Dinesh Vasu Dash expressed concern regarding the rise in fatalities. In response to these findings, the ministry is currently evaluating the implementation of more stringent deterrent measures to improve safety standards across all sectors.
