Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) is set to build an artificial island approximately 30 kilometres off the Sindh coast near Sujawal to enhance national oil exploration capabilities. According to PPL official Arshad Palekar, the structure will be elevated six feet above sea level to ensure continuous drilling operations regardless of tidal conditions. This initiative, modeled after similar projects in Abu Dhabi, aims to facilitate the drilling of roughly 25 wells. The project follows a recent government bidding round that awarded 23 offshore exploration blocks to various international and local consortia. These efforts align with broader government objectives to tap into potential hydrocarbon reserves, a goal recently highlighted by discussions involving United States officials regarding potential energy partnerships. Construction of the facility is expected to conclude in February, with drilling operations scheduled to commence shortly thereafter.
