Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang, the president of PAS, has publicly urged the government to repeal legal frameworks originating from the British colonial era. In a recent statement, the Marang Member of Parliament contended that these inherited statutes serve as significant barriers to the full integration of Syariah law within the Malaysian legal system. Hadi argued that genuine national independence remains incomplete as long as secular, man-made regulations take precedence over Islamic principles. He characterized existing non-Islamic laws as inherently flawed and responsible for societal misconduct. Consequently, he emphasized that these colonial-era remnants must be eliminated to ensure that Islamic law occupies a superior position in the country’s governance structure, asserting that this transition is essential for achieving the true objectives of Malaysian sovereignty.
