The Philippine government has announced substantial budgetary allocations to prepare for the anticipated consequences of the El Niño weather phenomenon. During a recent briefing, officials confirmed that 6.2 billion pesos are designated for the Department of Agriculture in 2026 to assist farmers and fishers facing climate and fuel-related challenges. Furthermore, the 2026 National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Fund will receive 39.83 billion pesos. Looking ahead to the 2027 fiscal year, the government has proposed even larger investments, including 45.67 billion pesos for disaster management, over 11 billion pesos for rice buffer stocks managed by the National Food Authority, and 4.5 billion pesos for agricultural insurance. These financial measures aim to bolster national resilience against climate-driven disruptions while maintaining economic stability.
