The Philippine government intends to scale up its solar-powered irrigation infrastructure to improve agricultural productivity and reduce operational expenses for local farmers. Acting Executive Secretary Ralph Recto announced that the National Irrigation Administration aims to establish 10,000 solar-powered pump sites across the country by 2030. Currently, the program manages over 4,000 installations distributed throughout Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. This initiative is designed to modernize the existing irrigation network, ensuring reliable water access during periods of drought and extreme weather conditions. By minimizing energy costs associated with traditional pumping methods, the administration seeks to bolster food security and enhance the overall financial stability of the farming sector in alignment with the President's directives.
