The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) in the Philippines is prioritizing the improvement of border surveillance to address persistent security vulnerabilities. Secretary Jonvic Remulla stated that the government is currently acquiring advanced enforcement equipment to better monitor the nation's backdoors. These efforts involve strengthening the operational capabilities of the Philippine Coast Guard, the Philippine National Police, and the Bureau of Immigration. Remulla acknowledged the complexity of securing these entry points, noting that there is no straightforward remedy for such intricate security challenges. Furthermore, the DILG is collaborating with regional partners through the ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Transnational Crime to discuss extradition treaties as a strategic tool against cross-border illegal activities. This initiative follows recent concerns regarding individuals exiting the country through unauthorized channels.
