South Korean President Lee Jae-myung has expressed his formal support for the nation's participation in the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership. During a gathering with over one hundred representatives from the agricultural and fishing industries at the presidential office in Seoul, Lee emphasized that the government would implement measures to prevent these groups from bearing the brunt of trade liberalization. He stated that the administration is committed to ensuring that vulnerable populations do not suffer disproportionate economic consequences due to international trade agreements. This event represents the first instance since 2018 that a South Korean head of state has engaged directly with these specific industry stakeholders at the presidential residence to discuss trade policy impacts.
