A recent survey conducted by Kyodo News indicates that support for Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s government has declined to 49.1 percent. This marks the first time her cabinet's approval rating has fallen under the 50 percent threshold since she assumed office in October of last year. Compared to the previous month, the approval figure decreased by 4.3 percentage points, while the disapproval rating climbed to 33 percent. Analysts attribute this downward trend to ongoing controversies surrounding cabinet officials, most notably the delayed removal of former agriculture minister Kazuo Yana. Yana faced significant backlash for controversial statements and potential breaches of election regulations. A majority of those polled expressed dissatisfaction with the Prime Minister's handling of the situation, specifically criticizing the amount of time taken to dismiss the minister.
