Officials from Qatar and Oman are advocating for the utilization of Middle East-based financial mechanisms, specifically Shariah-compliant instruments, to fund essential infrastructure developments throughout the Global South. Speaking at the Belt and Road Summit in Hong Kong, Mansoor Al Khater of the Qatar Financial Centre highlighted that nations across Asia, Africa, and Latin America face significant investment deficits. He suggested that the Middle East is well-positioned to address these needs by leveraging its robust capital reserves and strong economic standing. By acting as a central financial hub, the region aims to facilitate essential funding connections, thereby bridging the gap between available capital and the infrastructure requirements of developing nations in the Global South.
