The Saudi Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development has unveiled a plan to adjust the minimum salary requirements for Saudi nationals to be classified as full-time employees under the Nitaqat program. Starting April 25, 2027, the threshold will rise to SR5,000, followed by a further increase to SR6,000 on April 25, 2028. This policy change, which follows a six-month notice period after the October 2026 announcement, specifically targets the criteria used for Saudization calculations. The ministry emphasized that this regulatory update does not mandate that private-sector companies automatically raise the actual salaries of their current Saudi staff. Instead, the adjustment serves to redefine the minimum income level necessary for an employee to be fully counted toward a firm's nationalization quotas within the kingdom's labor market framework.
