Philippine Senator JV Ejercito has introduced Senate Bill 2522, aiming to raise the monthly social pension for impoverished elderly citizens from 1,000 to 2,000 pesos. This legislative proposal seeks to modify Republic Act 11916 to better address the financial burdens faced by retirees. According to Ejercito, the current allocation is inadequate due to the persistent inflation affecting the costs of essential goods and services. He highlighted that senior citizens struggle to cover basic expenses such as food, utility bills, transportation, and necessary medical care, including maintenance medications and doctor visits. By doubling the financial assistance, the senator intends to provide more substantial support to help the elderly manage their daily living requirements amidst rising economic pressures.
