Recent monsoon-driven flash floods in Nepal have caused significant damage to the nation's energy infrastructure, leading to a suspension of electricity exports to Bangladesh. The disaster, which impacted the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli river basins, resulted in the destruction of 15 hydropower facilities and essential transmission networks. This damage has effectively removed over 750 MW of generation capacity from the grid. Beyond the infrastructure losses, the catastrophe has claimed at least 1,250 lives, with nearly 900 workers reported missing. Officials from both Kathmandu and Dhaka have confirmed that the cross-border energy supply, which was intended to help Bangladesh reduce its reliance on fossil fuels, is currently halted. The Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation in Nepal is assessing the long-term impact of these floods on the country's regional energy export commitments.
