The Department of Motor Traffic in Sri Lanka is launching a specialized photographic initiative to track down vehicles producing high levels of smoke. Personnel will be stationed at key urban locations to capture images of polluting vehicles. Once identified, owners will be issued mandatory maintenance notices requiring them to repair their vehicles and undergo a formal inspection at the Werahera testing facility by a set date. Failure to adhere to these repair requirements will result in the vehicle being blacklisted within the official departmental database. Such measures will lead to substantial difficulties for owners when attempting to secure revenue licenses or complete registration transfers for their vehicles. This program aims to enforce stricter environmental compliance on public roads across the country.
