Sri Lankan authorities have concluded the first year of the 'Ratama Ekata' initiative, an islandwide campaign aimed at reducing narcotics trafficking and consumption. Official data from the Police Media Division indicates that between October 2025 and October 2026, law enforcement conducted nearly 311,000 raids, resulting in the apprehension of 310,200 individuals. Seizures during this period included significant quantities of heroin, crystal methamphetamine, and cocaine. The program focuses on a multifaceted strategy involving supply chain disruption, public awareness, and the rehabilitation of drug users. Additionally, police have secured detention orders for 3,787 suspects and are currently examining the illicit financial assets of 45 individuals linked to these operations. The initiative seeks to strengthen community engagement while intensifying efforts to mitigate the impact of drug abuse across the nation.
