The Supreme Court of the Philippines has partially approved a petition filed by Melencio Corpuz, a former public school principal based in San Jose, Occidental Mindoro. The tribunal overturned a previous ruling that found Corpuz guilty of grave misconduct regarding the unauthorized felling of trees. In a decision issued on June 2 and made public this Thursday, the high court determined that there was insufficient evidence to support the original charge. Consequently, the justices downgraded the offense and adjusted the disciplinary penalties previously imposed on the educator. This ruling marks a significant shift in the legal outcome for the former administrator, who had been facing severe administrative sanctions for his actions.
