Thai Deputy Prime Minister Anutin Charnviralkul is facing scrutiny regarding a gold pendant he previously promoted as a symbol of national soft power. The amulet was created by Phra Wachirayan Wi, the former abbot of Phuthaisawan Temple, who was taken into custody on September 10. Authorities allege the 66-year-old monk embezzled over 92 million baht from temple donations. Furthermore, the investigation revealed evidence of an illicit romantic relationship between the abbot and a 47-year-old temple employee named Punyawee. Surveillance footage captured the pair engaging in sexual acts within the monk's living quarters. Following the accusations, the abbot officially renounced his religious vows, and both he and his associate were transported to the Crime Suppression Division for further interrogation regarding the financial misconduct.
