Authorities in Laos apprehended thirteen people at Luang Prabang International Airport on October 1 after discovering 521 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine. The illicit substances were concealed within luggage prepared for transport on a private Learjet destined for the Philippines. The aircraft had previously arrived from Subang, Malaysia, reportedly without any cargo. Among those taken into custody are a Singaporean pilot, a co-pilot, and a Filipino passenger. Furthermore, ten Lao citizens, including staff responsible for airport ground operations and security screening, were detained as part of the investigation. Malaysian narcotics officials indicated that the flight was intended to collect the drug shipment in Laos for subsequent delivery to Manila. The case highlights ongoing efforts to dismantle regional drug trafficking networks utilizing private aviation.
