Mehmet Nizam Aslan, a journalist known by the pseudonym Ahmet Polad, has been incarcerated in Istanbul's Metris Prison following his transfer from Syria to Turkey. Aslan, who contributes to ETHA and Özgür TV, had been held in Syrian custody for approximately eight months after his initial detention in Raqqa last January. He was apprehended alongside German reporter Eva Maria Michelmann while covering regional conflicts. Following his arrival in Turkey on September 9, a court ordered his imprisonment pending trial. Official sources have not disclosed the specific legal charges brought against the journalist, nor have Turkish authorities provided public statements regarding the circumstances of his transfer or the judicial proceedings. Aslan has been active in reporting from Kurdish-controlled territories in northeastern Syria since 2016.
