The American Literary Translators Association has revealed its shortlist for the 2026 National Translation Awards, featuring two books originally written in Chinese. Shuang Xuetao’s short story collection "Hunter," translated by Jeremy Tiang, and Hon Lai Chu’s speculative fiction "Mending Bodies," translated by Jacqueline Leung, are among the 11 finalists selected from nine different languages. These awards, which have honored literary translation excellence since 1998, offer a $4,000 prize to winners in both prose and poetry categories. While Ye Hui’s poetry anthology "The Ruins" was previously longlisted, it did not advance to the final stage. Experts note that these nominations enhance the global visibility of Sinophone literature. The final winners will be revealed on October 23 during the organization's annual conference.
