The Chief Electoral Officer of Uttar Pradesh has mandated the immediate suspension of ECINET portal access for all computer assistants across electoral registration offices. This administrative decision follows formal complaints from the Congress party regarding the unauthorized alteration of over 13,000 voter records in the Pilibhit Sadar constituency. Official investigations confirmed that 10,470 entries were indeed irregular following the publication of final electoral rolls. The integrity of these records is significant, given that the incumbent Bharatiya Janata Party candidate secured the seat in the 2022 assembly elections with a margin of fewer than 7,000 votes. Preliminary findings by the district election officer indicate that a computer assistant was responsible for the improper data entries, prompting the state-wide security measure to prevent further misuse of the electoral management system.
