President Shavkat Mirziyoyev hosted a ceremony to honor the national chess and para-chess teams following their success at the 46th World Chess Olympiad in Samarkand. The men's team, which secured its second Olympic title, received Volkswagen Teramont Pro vehicles, residential properties, and $200,000 each. Para-chess team members were awarded Volkswagen Passat Pro cars, apartments, and $50,000 each. Coaches also received financial bonuses and vehicles. During the event, the President outlined a national strategy to transform Uzbekistan into a global chess hub. Plans include establishing regional branches of the Tashkent International Chess Academy, constructing a dedicated chess palace in New Tashkent, and implementing a systematic approach to identify and train young talent across the country. The government will also subsidize training costs for high-rated players at private clubs to further elevate the sport's national standard.
