Researchers in Uzbekistan’s Tashkent region have tested an automated feeding system for carp ponds designed to mitigate the effects of extreme summer heat. By utilizing sensors to monitor water temperature and oxygen levels, the system adjusts or suspends feeding when conditions become critical, preventing the buildup of organic waste. During a trial where air temperatures peaked at 44°C, ponds managed by this adaptive technology saw fish survival rates reach 93.2 percent, compared to 76.5 percent in ponds using traditional manual feeding. Additionally, the experimental group showed significantly higher average body weights and lower ammonium concentrations. While these results are promising for aquaculture resilience, the study authors emphasize that further testing across diverse climatic zones and farm environments is necessary to confirm the broader applicability of these findings.
